AMFS Categories and Awards

The Atlanta Model Figure is a family friendly show and as such we respectfully request that all entries should reflect good taste and appropriateness for all ages of viewers. Any displays or entries which do not meet these simple requirements are subject to removal from the exhibit areas. Additionally, the Show Committee reserves the right to disallow any entries which it deems not appropriate or distasteful

All displays in the exhibit hall are limited to a size of 30″ x 36″. Any entries exceeding this size MUST BE APPROVED IN ADVANCE by the SHOW CHAIRMAN.

Categories

Historical Painters – Stock Figures or Minor Conversions. Judged on Workmanship, Degree of Difficulty, but mainly Painting Skills.

Historical Open – Scratchbuilt or Heavily Modified/Converted. Judged on Workmanship, Degree of Difficulty, Anatomical Correctness, Presentation, Originality, and Painting Skill.

Fantasy Painters – All Non Historical Genres: Fantasy, Horror, Anime, Superhero, Sci-Fi. Stock Figures or Minor Conversions. Judged on Workmanship, Degree of Difficulty, but mainly Painting Skills.

Fantasy Open – All Non Historical Genres: Fantasy, Horror, Anime, Superhero, Sci-Fi. Scratch-built or Heavily Modified/Converted. Judged on Workmanship, Degree of Difficulty, Anatomical Correctness, Presentation, Originality, and Painting Skill.

Stock Vignettes/Dioramas – All Genres – Stock Figures or Minor Conversions. Judged on Workmanship, Degree of Difficulty, Presentation, Originality, Ground Work, and Painting Skills.

Open Vignettes/Dioramas – All Genres – Scratch-built or Heavily Modified/Converted. Judged on Workmanship, Degree of Difficulty, Anatomical Correctness, Presentation, Originality, Ground Work, and Painting Skills.

Models – All Genres – Ordinance, Cars, Ships, Planes, Sci-Fi, and Misc. Judged on Workmanship, Degree of Difficulty, but mainly Painting Skills.

Toy Soldiers – This category is divided Old Toy Soldiers and New Toy Soldiers: subdivided small grouping (1-10) large grouping (11+). Toy Soldiers are judged primarily on Presentation. .

Junior – Modelers 15 and younger. Designed for Beginners. All genres: Historical, Fantasy, Vignettes/Dioramas, Models. Judged on Workmanship, Degree of Difficulty, Presentation, Originality, Ground Work, and Painting Skills.

Basic – Modelers 16 and older. Designed for Beginners or those not yet comfortable in entering the advanced placement. All genres: Historical, Fantasy, Vignettes/Dioramas, Models. Judged on Workmanship, Degree of Difficulty, but mainly Painting Skills.

Phoenix Award – Best fantasy figure or bust. Sponsored by AMFS.

The Atlanta Cup –  Award chosen among Atlanta Grand Masters by Atlanta Grand Masters.

Derek Holmes Award –  Best of Show Chosen by AMFS Grand Masters.

Old Guard Award –  In Memory of  Ron Wehrman and Chuck Robinson for best Napoleonic display.

Best Collection –Sponsored by AMFS.

Best Flat Award – sponsored by AMFS.

Individual and Specialty Awards

Charles Morton Memorial Award – Best figure(s) any scale or period representing the spirit of the American fighting man, throughout history. Sponsored by Joe Singletary

Scotland Forever Award – Best  figure representing the Scottish fighting man.  Any period of history that is readily identifiable as Scottish. Sponsored by Lou Coroso.

Best Of The West Award – Best figure(s) or vignette, any scale or subject representing the American West, 1830-1880 Sponsored by Terry and Tyler Martin.

Yankee Doodle – Best painted figure, bust, diorama/vignette, any scale. Focusing on the American Revolutionary War period 1770-1783. Sponsored by Terry and Tyler Martin

Napoleons Eagle Award –  Best French Napoleonic figure(s) Sponsored by Terry Martin

U.S. / C.S. Calvary Award (IN HONOR OF LOU COROSO’S MILITARY SERVICE) – Any mounted / un-mounted US/CS cavalry figure from Colonial to present day. Sponsored by Tim Norman

Best Monster Award –  Best Overall Monster of any genre. Sponsored by Laura Dandridge.
